On January 15th, Stephen Lecce, MPP for King--Vaughan, hosted a ceremony to recognize five young community leaders receiving the prestigious King Charles III Coronation Awards. The five individuals were Anthony D'Ambrosio, Brandon Samuels, and Andy Tran from Maple; Zohaib Malhi from Kleinburg; and Breanna Di Battista from King.
Anthony is a 20-year old cancer survivor that never gave up his fight -- and used his experience to inspire young minds across the province by sharing his story and shining a light on the importance of the Terry Fox Marathon of Hope that supports cancer research.
Breanna is a 22-year-old university student who made it her mission to help others by volunteering her time to supporting women overcoming addiction, survivors of human trafficking and sexual exploitation, and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities with compassion and love.
Zohaib oversees 29 charities and chairs the Run for Vaughan fundraiser that has raised $2 million to date for the world-class Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital.
Brandon is the 18-year-old Valedictorian of the Maple High School class of 2024, who has been an active volunteer with ANCHOR Canada and the Catholic Community Services of York Region, co-founded the 'Peer Mentorship' program at this high school, and was a key member of his school's Black Excellence Leadership Committee.
Andy Tran is a 16-year-old who is the Troop Leader for the 1st Bradford Scouts and was the sole youth from the City of Vaughan selected to carry the Canadian flag at international jamborees in Finland, the Netherlands, Essex, and Scotland -- representing our country with pride on the world stage.
"The King Charles III Coronation Medal is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our country to elevate and celebrate individuals that leave a powerful legacy -- so I was proud to recognize five young, generational leaders that have made a lasting difference in their communities," said MPP Lecce. "Together, we say thank you for your leadership, and for making us all proud to call ourselves Canadians."
