On February 1, Stephen Lecce, MPP for King-Vaughan participated in a Lunar New Year celebration with members of the Vietnamese community at the Cam Lo Vuong Buddhist Community Temple in Vaughan. At the event, he delivered special remarks on behalf of the
Government of Ontario and following the lead of the Venerable Master Thich Hue Minh (Abbot of the temple), he lit a candle to offer best wishes for the new year.
Lunar New Year is one of the most important holidays among East and Southeast Asian cultures, including the Vietnamese, Chinese and Korean communities in Ontario.
Each year is associated with a zodiac animal that corresponds to an element. The year 2022 is slated to be the year of the water tiger, which comes up every 60 years.
MPP Lecce reaffirmed his commitment to fighting Asian hate and discrimination in schools to protect students from rising hate. MPP Lecce is leading the effort against hate within Ontario schools.
“King and Vaughan is home to a rich, vibrant and diverse Vietnamese, Chinese and Korean community that have contributed so much to Ontario’s success,” said Stephen Lecce, MPP for King-Vaughan. “This Lunar New Year, I was grateful to join Master Minh and celebrate with members of the Vietnamese community at the Cam Lo Vuong Buddhist Community Temple. I wish all families a happy, successful and prosperous Year of the Tiger.
